My family is from the mountains of Western Maryland and West Virgina. The music and spirit of those old hills resonated with me at an early age and they both still make me feel at home.
I grew up in Mississippi and was immersed neck deep in the Delta Blues and the people that lived it.
My dad exposed me to music of his era, from Jimi to John Prine, while at the same time being a pretty great guitar, piano, and banjo player. He always wanted someone to play rhythm for him and that's where I think I started to find my sound.
I was never really a good enough picker to be a bluegrass player but I loved the sounds. I haven't lived enough yet to really sing the blues but I loved the stories. I don't have what you call a real pretty voice so I wasn't really one to play a lot of covers.
When I got to high school I started to write my own music, drawing from all those things I loved about all forms of music, but tailoring them to fit into my own sound.
Above all, I cherish lyrics. A song that can tell a story while at the same time allowing you to relate it to your own life is truly magic.
I think between my rough and tumble voice, my obsession with good story telling, and my diverse musical background rooted in Americana - I have a unique perspective and sound.
My dream is to write music that people can relate to and that other artists want to interpret and play. Nothing makes me happier then hearing someone take something I've created and make it their own.
I'm now in Bozeman, Montana and have recently finished an EP to showcase my music. I plan on continuing to write and share more music in the hopes to someday write music for a living.
